Heidelberg, January 27, 2020 – SNP dome: the large new sports hall in Heidelberg, which will start operating this year. The software company SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE signed an agreement in mid-January on the naming and partnership rights of the sports hall for ten years. The venue offers space for around 5,000 spectators and is intended to be an important location in the Heidelberg area for sporting and cultural events. Among other things, the SNP dome will serve as a training and competition location for many sports clubs in Heidelberg and the surrounding area: For example, the basketball team MLP Academics Heidelberg will use it as their home arena and the handball team Rhein-Neckar Löwen as a second venue. School sports will also take place in the hall. With the namesake and partnership of the large sports hall, the global software company is further expanding its broad-based cultural and sporting commitment.

“SNP has had roots in Heidelberg since it was founded over 25 years ago. That is why social engagement was very important to us from the start”, says Dr. Andreas Schneider-Neureither, CEO of SNP. “I am particularly pleased that we can now help shape the sports and cultural landscape even more actively than before with the SNP dome. For SNP, this is an important and sensible step in the context of our long-term social commitment to promoting sport and culture.” “Popular and high-performance sport in Heidelberg has a new landmark: the SNP dome”, commented Eckart Würzner, Mayor of the City of Heidelberg. “I am delighted that the city has been able to win a global company based in Heidelberg as a name partner. Dr. Andreas Schneider-Neureither has long been active in promoting sports with SNP. I think it’s great that he’s now committed to sport in our city in this way. The software and IT company SNP, as the namesake, fits in perfectly with this location –because the SNP dome will be located in the Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip), where solutions for the digital future are being found.”

“With SNP, we have succeeded in winning a Heidelberg company as name sponsor for the large sports hall, which stands for the sporting values of performance, team spirit and fairness”, says Peter Bresinski, Managing Director of GGH and BSG. “Sport connects a lot of people –regardless of how old they are, what they do for a living or how much money they earn. The SNP dome offers excellent conditions for this, regardless of whether it is school, club or professional sport.” SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE has been promoting organizations and projects in the fields of art, culture, charitable causes and sport for many years. In its sports sponsorship, SNP focuses on supporting organizations that are characterized by innovative approaches and committed youth work.

Among other things, the company is a jersey sleeve sponsor of the Bundesliga first division club TSG Hoffenheim and a partner of the US golf professional and five-time PGA Tour winner Bryson DeChambeau.

Status of the construction work
Shortly before Christmas, the building was temporarily sealed from the outside in order to be able to continue with the interior work during the winter months. The building services are currently being installed and the preparatory work for laying the hall floor is in progress. The facade elements will be installed as soon as the weather permits. In the lower third of the building, floor-to-ceiling windows will provide a view into the interior of the large sports hall. In the upper area, gray panels will be attached as external cladding. In future, the name “SNP dome” will also appear here.

Accessibility
The entrance level of the new hall is about 1.50 meters above the surrounding area and is fully accessible via a spacious staircase with side ramps, as is the interior. Different levels separate the players and the visitors. In the spectator area there will be places for wheelchair users with companion places and seats for visitors with visual and hearing impairments with the appropriate technical equipment.
The needs and requirements of people with disabilities are extensively taken into account in the construction and equipment.

Energy Efficiency
The hall will be a highly energy-efficient building with an optimized insulation concept and an airtight construction with a ventilation system that includes heat recovery. A photovoltaic system on the roof will generate electricity for both the hall and the neighborhood, which is why it is integrated into the local power grid. The hall is connected to the district heating network and to the district cooling station in the neighboring parking garage, so that the playing field area or the hall interior can be cooled during Bundesliga games and major events.

Building company and operations
GGH and its subsidiary BSG, Bau- und Servicegesellschaft mbH, have been working on the preparations and planning of the construction of the new hall since the end of 2013. In 2016, the city council commissioned the BSG with the construction and operation of the large sports hall. For an initial period of 30 years, the city of Heidelberg will rent hall capacities for school and club sports according to needs, which will be continuously updated. In order to meet the needs of professional sport and culture, coordinated operating concepts will be developed. The BSG acts as a direct contractual partner with all those involved in the project and has its own employees for technical operation and management of the hall. The event area is managed by the Heidelberger Kultur- und Kongressgesellschaft mbH (HKK).
