On November 10, 2023, a new green colocation data center opened on the hip campus. The data center is another important component for strengthening the Innovation Park as a hotspot for new technology in the fields of IT, AI and the digital world for research institutions, start-ups and international companies.
The project was implemented by the Data Center Group (DCG) as general contractor together with Data Center Security GmbH (DCS) and InfraRed Capital Partners in a record time of just 11 months (one month less than planned). The data center takes a future-proof approach relying on sustainable electricity, an innovative cooling concept and heat recovery.
The Mayor of Heidelberg, Eckart Würzner, also attended the opening ceremony and, together with those involved in the project, handed over the property to the operator.
“The new green data center strengthens Heidelberg as a location for business and innovation in the future and is an important building block in the development of the Heidelberg Innovation Park as an innovation hub for IT, AI, the digital world and life sciences with an appeal that goes beyond regional borders. The data center offers the modern digital infrastructure, which we urgently need in Heidelberg for the future. Thanks to its efficient operation and the use of renewable energy, the data center makes a valuable contribution to the protection of our environment. Thus, the data center offers many new opportunities for start-ups and companies, in the hip and in the entire region,” says the Mayor of Heidelberg, Eckart Würzner.
